How to Join A Dart League

You've got darts you love, you've practiced, and you even play darts at your local bar or club on the weekends just for fun, but you don't know how to join a dart league, or whether it's something you would enjoy.

The best way to find out whether or not  a dart league is for you is by talking to league members.  If you know someone who's in a dart league that interests you, ask questions that will help determine whether or not being part of league seems like an experience you're after.

Are most members there just to throw darts, or is there a lot of socialization outside the games?  Does the dart league sponsor many events, or just occasional gatherings?  Ask for the person's opinion about the associated costs, and the quality of the league and its activities.  What's expected of members, and what's required?

Picking the brain of someone already experienced with that particular league might be the best way to find out about it, but going to the league and asking the people in charge those questions is a good way to feel out the organization, too.

Find out the up-front costs of joining the dart league, and ask whether or not all or part of that is refundable if you try it and find out it's not really for you. Are there dues in addition to any registration costs, and if so, how much are they, and how often are they collected?  Ask for a schedule of events and activities, even check with your calendar to make sure that if you do join, you'll get to enjoy them.  Be sure you're informed of any miscellaneous costs after you've joined, like fees for certain events, that could add considerably to the cost of belonging to the league.

Ask to see the league handbook or list of rules, and find out everything that's required of you up front.  Common questions you'll want answered before you join are whether or not you'll need a team uniform, how postponements are handled, how forfeitures are calculated, and  how team captains are chosen.  Some other things to be aware of before you join are the dart league's rules governing playoffs, and the methods that are used for dispute resolution, just in case.  Each league can handle certain things differently, like whether or not rules can be changed during the season, and how score sheets are handled.  If you're aware of these details before joining the dart league, there's less chance of confusion and dissatisfaction with the way things are done later on.

If you want to check out different leagues, you can go to your favorite search engine to look for dart leagues in your location.  For example, search for 'Colorado dart leagues,' or 'South Wales dart leagues,' and you'll probably find all the closest leagues' websites.

A little bit of research and a lot of questions will ensure that you're well-informed before paying that registration fee, and that you'll join the dart league that's right for you.
